The beatification of "The Martyrs of Drina"

took place at Olympic Hall Zetra in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina,

on 24th September 2011.

The message of the Martyrs is a message of faith and love. The Catechism of the Catholic Church affirms: "Martyrdom is the supreme witness given to the truth of the faith" (n. 2473). Indeed, following Jesus also means following him in suffering and accepting persecution for love of the Gospel (cf. Mt 24: 8-14; Mk 13: 9-13; Lk 21: 12-19):

Sister Jula, Berchmana, Krizina, Antonija and Bernadeta, known as 'the Martyrs of Drina', were missionaries who served their God by assisting the sick and poor of the suffering population of Eastern Bosnia. They confirmed their fidelity to God by shedding their blood.

Their message was to do good to all in every moment and place and in that way making God's love visible in the world.
